CODE OF CONDUCT

BE AN AMBASSADOR

As a member of Run for Chinatown or participant of its events, I am committed to being a good ambassador of my Club which I intentionally uphold with awareness and respect. Whether I am at a Club event or outside of one, I am a face of Run for Chinatown and will positively represent the Club in my actions, conversations, and decisions. Run for Chinatown’s reputation as a safe, friendly, and inclusive space for runners, walkers, and community members is it’s most important asset, and I will do my part to protect it.

BE RESPECTFUL AND INCLUSIVE

I am committed to respecting all members of Run for Chinatown and participants of its events, the diverse community that it is composed of and represents, including but not excluding: backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. I understand that Run for Chinatown has a zero tolerance policy for discrimination, harassment, or bullying of any form including and not limited to physical, verbal, sexual, or visual; and will refrain from any act that could be construed as such. As a bystander, I will also hold my peers accountable, and speak up to the best of my abilities should I witness anyone violating this commitment.

BE KIND

I understand that my words and actions may extend beyond myself and I will respect my teammates and/or participants on personal, electronic, and social media communications and platforms.

UPHOLD THE RULES

As a Run for Chinatown member or participant of its events, I will refrain from unethical practices related to training and racing, and I will report instances where I witness unethical training or racing practices to the Run for Chinatown leadership. I am committed to following the rules of the race event organizers whenever I participate in their events. This includes (and is not limited to) bib transfers, following the official course in its entirety, “banditing”, and respecting race facilities.

I will also respect the rules of the road during all of my runs, including on weekly Run for Chinatown runs and/or events, and my other training runs. This means I will be mindful of bike lanes, my right of way, and yield to pedestrians.

RESPECT PARTICIPANTS AND COMMUNITY

As a member or participant, I commit to act with proper running etiquette and consideration towards all at any event. I recognize that my behavior is a reflection of Run for Chinatown’s values, and will demonstrate Run for Chinatown as a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive running club.

Run for Chinatown discourages the use of headphones, especially during group runs, so that I can be aware of my surroundings, hear my group leaders, and get to know my fellow runners. I will leave room for other people to share the road, and stay to the right of the sidewalk so that pedestrians and other runners can pass on the left.

As a member of Run for Chinatown or participant of its events, I commit to doing my best to keep the space and its surroundings clean, clear, and in the same condition as when I arrived, if not better. This means that I will not litter and I will not damage property.

COVID-19 AND OTHER ILLNESSES

I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases and therefore will respect the space of others by wearing a mask when I am indoors or when in close proximity to another person. I will not attend an event if I am feeling sick or am exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, the flu, or other illness such as: coughing, sneezing, sore throat, or fever. I understand that this is for my own safety and those around me.

(See cdc.gov and nyc.gov for the latest guidelines)

RESPECT ARTIST PROPERTY

I recognize that the Run for Chinatown community has many voluntary artistic contributors across multiple mediums (including but not excluding: flyers, photography, videography) and I fully respect their rights to ownership and distribution. Should I share their creations on social media or elsewhere, I will commit to crediting their work to where it is due and encourage others to do the same. If I notice that someone’s work has not been properly credited, I will do my part and report it to the Run for Chinatown leadership.

DISCIPLINE

Run for Chinatown is first and foremost a community. As a member, I welcome inclusivity and growth. I understand that this club exists to push limits, which includes myself and others around me; I recognize that as an individual, I am on my own personal growth, and extend that recognition and respect toward all members in this community. I will be mindful to extend this grace to myself, and those around me and as such will be supported by Run for Chinatown  leadership.

This Code is set in place to provide an outline of expectations. I understand that my failure to meet the Run for Chinatown Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary actions.
