Run for Chinatown 2nd Annual Lunar New Year 2023 Bridgeathon Relay Race

The Bridgeathon

Run for Chinatown was born out of a series of fundraising challenges to inspire the Chinatown community. One of those challenges was to complete a marathon running laps over the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges to celebrate the Lunar New Year. On February 20th, 2021, a handful of runners set out on this challenge. They ran 7 laps over the two bridges and conquered the marathon distance.

The Run for Chinatown Lunar New Year Bridgeathon Relay Race continues the spirit of that first run.

We are excited to be partnering with OMRC and Nike this year to share this event with even more runners and provide even more impact in our community!

SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY

This year, instead of having each team represent a specific charity and compete with each other for the donation, we have decided to direct fundraising efforts toward one local charity to focus our impact. We’re excited to support Chinatown Youth Initiatives this year, an awesome organization providing young folks in Chinatown opportunities to develop as leaders in the community:

“At Chinatown Youth Initiatives, we do not only believe that today’s youth are the leaders of tomorrow, but that they can be the leaders of today. All of our programs are youth-run and youth-lead, which means our youth leaders take the initiative to develop new programs, run workshops and activities, and design curriculums.” — www.cyinyc.org

We hope you’ll join us in rallying support for Chinatown Youth Initiatives!

THE RACE

Like last year, we will randomly group runners into relay teams, distributing runners so that each team has a fair chance of winning, runners with ALL running paces are encouraged to sign up. This will be a fun way to meet other runners from the community while we tackle those bridges together! All runners and volunteers will receive a special edition hoodie.

Due to the format of this competition, we will, unfortunately, not have a walking option for this race. But, you can still come out and cheer and/or volunteer with our community!

Each runner will be assigned a team and wave number. Wave 1 will start at 9:00 am, and each subsequent wave will depart every few minutes thereafter. This way, we will all finish around the same time and minimize the amount of time waiting in the cold.

This is an unsanctioned race, this means the streets are not closed from car and pedestrian traffic. Please follow the directions of course marshals when crossing roads, otherwise all the rules of the road like yielding to pedestrians and staying to your right apply. Your SAFETY is most important.

After the race is finished, please stick around for the end for awards and to cheer for all finishers. We will enjoy a light lunch together after courtesy of Potluck Club!

RESULTS

When all runners from your team finish running, we will tally your team’s total running time. The three fastest teams will win a prize!
